The World Poker Tour Championship Tournament
The World Poker Tour Championship is the tournament of all tournaments. In this tournament, all of the best poker tournament players will convene to see who is to be called the best of the best in the game of poker. This grand tournament is held at the luxurious Bellagio casino hotel which can be found within the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada.
In each and every sports tournament in the world today, there are events that are designed to determine the ultimate winner. In this tour, the World Poker Tour Championship will determine the ultimate champion in poker. Throughout the years, this event has seen the biggest names in poker succeed. No one can deny that each and every player who wins in this prestigious event should be regarded as the world's best in playing the game.
The first year of this tournament happened in 2003. This event was the last tournament for the World Poker Tour 2002-2003. It saw the likes of James Hoeppner, Ted Forrest, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Alan Goehring and Kirill Gerasimov. In the end it was Goehring who was able to capture the pot by defeating Gerasimov. Goehring took home the grand pot amounting to $1,011,866. This event capped off a very successful year for the tour which will lead to more years of fun and world class poker tournaments.
Just like the debut year of the tour, the World Poker Tour 2003-2004 closed out with a fun-filled and thrilling final table of the World Poker Tour Championship that saw Hasan Habib, Steve Brecher, Russell Rosenblum, Richard Grijalva, Matt Matros and Martin De Knijff battling it out for poker dominance. The outcome was really thrilling and exciting as De Knijff outlasted Habib in a grueling showdown. De Knijff was able to take home the grand prize which is valued at $2,728,356.
Meanwhile, the World Poker Tour 2004-2005 continued to thrive as it ended with the final table of the WPT Championship. This time around, the final table was made up by Paul Maxfield, Phil Ivey, Hasan Habib, Tuan Le, Bon Phan and Rob Hollink. The event was dominated by Tuan Le who ended up defeating Maxfield for the $2,856,150 pot.
The WPT Championship of the World Poker Tour 2005-2006 was another success. It featured new and fresher talents that have never stepped in this very high level of poker competition. Among the poker players who made it to the final table are James Van Alstyne, Claus Nielsen, Roland De Wolfe, Joe Bartholdi Jr., David Matthew and Men Nguyen. In the final moments, Bartholdi closed out the competition by defeating Matthew for the $3,760,165 pot.
In the latest installment of the WPT Championship at the World Poker Tour 2006-2007, Carlos Montensen won the prestigious pot which is valued at nearly $4 million. In that season ender, he bested the likes of Kirk Morrison, Mike Wattel, Tim Phan, Guy Laliberte and Paul Lee for the right to be called a poker champion.
