The EPT French Open of the European Poker Tour in Deauville
So far, the european poker Tour has held two EPT French Open tournaments in its history. This EPT Grand Final qualifying event has delivered world class and fast-paced poker competition for the first and second seasons of the tour. This prestigious event was held at the community of Deauville in France.
France is pretty much a good supporter of the European Poker Tour. This country has produced the likes of outstanding poker greats Pascal Perrault, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz and Jan Boubli. Among the other excellent poker players who hail from this beautiful country are David Tavernier, Patrick Bueno, Bertrand Grospellier, Farid Meraghni and Alexandre Poulain. By producing such a wide variety of talented individuals in poker, it is but fitting for France to be a host country for this major poker event.
During the first season of the tour, it was Brandon Schaefer of the U.S. who was able to bag the grand pot at the EPT French Open poker tournament. In the process, he defeated fellow American Carl Olson in the final round. Schaefer was able to take home a total winnings amounting to 144,000 Euros. Those great international poker players who made it to the final table are Luca Pagano of Italy, Peter Eichhardt of Sweden, Justin Bonomo and Mark Ristine of the U.S., and Bob Coombes and Jeremy Tuckmann of England.
In the second season of the tour, it was Mats Iremark of Sweden who dominated the French Open with excellent use of strategies and aggressive style of play. He was able to defeat Mark Boudewijn of the Netherlands to take home the pot amounting to 480,000 Euros. This is the second straight year wherein this tournament has provided a very thrilling and exciting finish. The list of international poker players who were able to make it to the final table are Stuart Nash and Ram Vaswani of England, Isabelle Mercier of Canada, Patric Martensson of Sweden, Theo Jorgensen of Denmark, and Kirill Gerasimov of Russia.
The EPT French Open has a very wonderful legacy in the European Poker Tour despite being held for only a couple of seasons. It may be a very short stint but the history of the tour would not be complete without this prestigious and very exciting tournament. This poker tournament has also been successful in featuring the up-and-coming superstars of the poker game in Europe. The tour has indeed been blessed by the presence of this tournament.
